Let’s be honest—when you first heard the name Shiny Hiny, you probably smiled, maybe even giggled. And that’s exactly the point!

We know what you’re thinking: “Who in their right mind would name a brand Shiny Hiny?” The answer? Someone who believes sunscreen should be fun, adventurous, and full of personality. That someone is us.

The Name That Stuck

Shiny Hiny started as a nickname my youngest sister gave me on a family vacation a few years back. In a blended family of three sisters, I am the oldest and the most adventurous…but also the one who was garunteed to get sunburnt. Our family vacations have always wrapped around exploration and travel. I was the designated adventure-seeker, finding the hike to take, the river to paddle, or the reef to dive on. My sisters would always oblige.

It never failed that right when I started to slather on my ghost-white mineral sunscreen, the jokes would start to fly. One day, we were snorkeling at a beautiful reef in the Bahamas. As I’m face down and snorkel up, one of them pipes up with “if the boat breaks down we won’t need to signal for help, the rescuers can see the reflection on Grace’s ”Shiny Hiny”. For the rest of the vacation, no one used my name; Shiny Hiny had stuck. It was a family joke, and I was the butt of it, literally.

What It Represents

But just as fiery as we are with the one-liners, we are equally as fierce about loving and accepting one another for our different parents, different skin tones, and everything else in between. In the years since they started calling me Shiny Hiny, our sisterly conversations have turned to important ones about self-love, acceptance, health, wellness, and a whole lot of talk about protecting our skin!

Shiny Hiny is more than just a cheeky name—it’s a mindset. It’s about embracing adventure with confidence, taking care of yourself (and your skin), and not taking life too seriously. It’s sunscreen for the adventurer, the risk-taker, and the person who loves a little humor with their sun protection.
